How are debt mutual funds taxed?

From April 2023, all debt mutual fund gains are taxed at your income slab rate (no special LTCG rate), regardless of holding period. This made debt funds less attractive for high earners vs fixed deposits.

How is real estate LTCG taxed?

Real estate held more than 24 months is LTCG. Budget 2024 changed the rate to 12.5% without indexation benefit. Sellers can opt for 20% with indexation for properties purchased before July 23, 2024.
